On the evening of Thursday, April 13th, Project Vine hosted a Cornhole Tournament and Cook-Out to raise money for our upcoming trip to New York City. Students, staff and members of our extended school community came together to compete, eat and bid on some awesome cornhole boards created by Project Vine students and staff.
“This event was a great opportunity for students to learn first-hand about fundraising and event planning, but also an opportunity to get together as a community and have some fun in the warmer weather,” said English teacher Dani Fletcher.
Sophomore Colby Balboni noted that it was “a community effort to build, design and then paint the boards.” Indeed, the Project Vine Suite had started to resemble a wood-craft workshop in the weeks leading up to the tournament, and it took the effort of nearly every student and staff member affiliated with the program to complete the building and painting of 5 custom cornhole sets.
The students and staff would like to say a special thank you to those parents and school community members who helped us make this event such a success. Project Vine parents played a huge role in making everything happen, working the grill, serving food, playing in the tournament itself and bidding on the sets that were up for auction. The program was able to raise almost $1,000 toward offsetting the cost of the New York City trip planned for the end of this week, in which students will be taking a student-planned walking-tour of scenes from the novel Catcher in the Rye, visiting the Museum of Modern Art and taking a sightseeing cruise around Manhattan, Ellis and Liberty Islands.
