Since I’ve been in this program, I’ve encountered a lot of interesting classmates and even more interesting teachers who have supported me more than any other teachers I’ve ever had. That’s not to mention their quirky personalities that I utterly and completely enjoy.
One of the advantages of being in this program is instead of being in an elective during F block, we have basically our own elective. We choose a project we want to do (within reason) then we do it and we get credit for it, which is one of my favorite things about this program.
Since I started this program a few weeks into school, I got a late start so I had to pick a project pretty quickly. For my first project, I decided to paint something on one of the walls. I thoroughly enjoy drawing and painting, so I thought, why not? I was working on it one day when Linda Leonard (the school nurse) came in to talk to some of the teachers. I should mention that I am particularly close with Linda, seeing as I have to go see her two or more times a day. While I was working, she was asking me about what I was doing. I explained it all to her and she told me she “couldn’t wait to see how it turned out!”
My project is very special to me: the flowers, trees, and water inside the hands are a metaphor for being one with the earth and being at peace.
After finishing my work, I was talking to my English teacher, Ms. Dani Fletcher, about my finished project. We were talking about what she thought about the mural I had painted and she said, “I think especially in light of our name change to Project Vine the work that you did on this mural is just awesome!” which I greatly appreciate. I genuinely look forward to everything else I will get to do in this program.
